Brutalism Experimentation
Brutalism Experimentation
An exploration of identity using the raw, unfiltered language of brutalist graphic design.
Challenge
My goal was to create a self-portrait that went beyond a simple photo. I challenged myself to apply the principles of brutalism in graphic design like raw typography and grunge-like textures to convey complex personal themes through a single image.
Goals
Apply some brutalist principles: raw typography and visible grids.
Develop a personal iconography to represent different ideas and influences.
Integrate a self-portrait in a stylized, non-traditional manner.
Create a composition that felt intentionally chaotic and layered with meaning.
Solution
The final piece combines a stark palette, monospace fonts, and a high-contrast filter on my photo. The scattered icons and phrases create a dense visual language, resulting in a raw and honest self-portrait.
