The Life of Pi'erre 5 VHS Cover
The Life of Pi'erre 5 VHS Cover
Translating a modern rap album's aesthetic into nostalgic, retro VHS packaging.
Challenge
My challenge was to design a physical artifact for a digital-first album. I wanted to capture the hazy, lo-fi, and nostalgic sound of Pi'erre Bourne's music by imagining 'The Life of Pi'erre 5' as a 1990s home video release.
Goals
Deconstruct the typography and layout of 90s VHS covers.
Incorporate the album's colorful, Murakami-inspired aesthetic.
Design for the full physical format, including spine and back cover.
Create a final design that felt like a genuine, worn-out artifact.
Solution
I used grainy textures, slightly misaligned text, and classic 90s fonts to build an authentic VHS feel. The final design includes wear-and-tear details and a custom retro logo to complete the illusion of a vintage object.
